NEWS! SWeet!'s BBC Sounds Podcast With James Acaster Is Now LIVE!
SWeet! Recorder Consort CIC offers high quality recorder tuition, at fees vastly reduced from the market rate, to students aged 8-18 in the London Borough of Lambeth. Bringing all sections of the community together to make music, SWeet! especially welcomes applications from children from low income households, children from ethnic minority backgrounds, children with special needs or disabilities, or children who face other special challenges. The children are united by their love of music, and their community unites to support them.
Founded in 2013 with just one student, incorporated in 2017, and growing to 23 students in 2019, SWeet! is a recorder success story. The group frequently performs at local venues and appears regularly at the Royal Festival Hall. We have made our own recordings with a professional producer and featured in a BBC Sounds Podcast with James Acaster.
SWeet! Superstars won a national award for innovation with Music For Youth in 2015. SWeet! Main Consort has won cups at the Beckenham Festival every year since 2014, and at the Coulsdon & Purley Festival in 2018 & 2019.
SWeet!’s success has inspired young musicians and their audiences with a new-found enthusiasm for the recorder and the huge variety of music it can play.
However, SWeet!’s most important achievement is consistent and on-going investment in our local community, Streatham & Brixton SW2. We have pursued this by actively encouraging the inclusion of children from all backgrounds, regardless of the challenges they face, or of families’ ability to pay. The local community unites in support, through attending concerts and events, and with fundraising initiatives.
The children who have passed grade examinations are not just those who can afford it but from a range of backgrounds and incomes
SWeet! has introduced my children and me to many people in my local community I would not have otherwise known. A wonderfully diverse range of people that it's a pleasure to know
I like it when we win because that means we put a lot of effort into it
Many of SWeet!'s students come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
For these children, access to high quality instrumental tuition is simply unaffordable.
SWeet! ensures instrumental provision for all Lambeth children, regardless of ability to pay. We are reliant upon donations to continue and expand our work.Donate!

In March 2019, long before anyone had heard of Covid-19, the immensely talented and lovely James Acaster visited SWeet! and played recorder with our students. This wonderful podcast celebrates our kids, our community and our beautifully versatile little instrument. Enjoy!
SWeet! gratefully acknowledges the generous support of our funders and sponsors, without whom we could not reach those children most in need.
