SWeet! Students will participate in a Workshop at the London International Festival of Early Music (LIFEM) 14th November 2024!
SWeet! has helped my child develop personal, social and educational skills, making him more confident than he was before.
We have built a community that holds a place in everyone's heart
The feeling of knowing they are 'good' at something…spills over into school learning, and children gain the confidence to pursue to their ambitions
SWeet! Recorder Consort CIC offers high quality recorder tuition, at fees vastly reduced from the market rate, to students aged 8-18 in the London Borough of Lambeth. Bringing all sections of the community together to make music, SWeet! especially welcomes applications from children from low income households, children from ethnic minority backgrounds, children with special needs or disabilities, or children who face other special challenges. The children are united by their love of music, and their community unites to support them.
Founded in 2013 with just one student, incorporated in 2017, and growing to 25 students in 2024, SWeet! is a recorder success story. The group frequently performs at local venues and appears regularly at the Lambeth Country Show. We have made our own recordings with a professional producer and featured in a BBC Sounds Podcast with James Acaster.
SWeet! Superstars won a national award for innovation with Music For Youth in 2015. SWeet! Main Consort won cups at the Beckenham Festival every year from 2014 until its closure in 2022, and at the Coulsdon & Purley Festival every year from 2017 to 2024.
SWeet!’s success has inspired young musicians and their audiences with a new-found enthusiasm for the recorder and the huge variety of music it can play.
However, SWeet!’s most important achievement is consistent and on-going investment in our local community, Streatham & Brixton SW2. We have pursued this by actively encouraging the inclusion of children from all backgrounds, regardless of the challenges they face, or of families’ ability to pay. The local community unites in support, through attending concerts and events, and with fundraising initiatives.
Many of SWeet!'s students come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
For these children, access to high quality instrumental tuition is simply unaffordable.
SWeet! ensures instrumental provision for all Lambeth children, regardless of ability to pay. We are reliant upon donations to continue and expand our work.
